Charity Shop Customer Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Charity Shop Customer Assistant to join our team and contribute to the positive impact our organization makes in the community. This role involves delivering exceptional customer service to all shop visitors, ensuring a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting customers with their purchases, providing product information, and handling transactions efficiently and accurately. You will play a vital role in maintaining the shop’s appearance, including sorting and pricing donations, restocking shelves, and creating visually appealing displays to attract and engage customers.

Additionally, you will support the shop manager in daily operations, which includes managing inventory, processing donations, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a strong sense of initiative, and a passion for the charity’s mission. Prior experience in retail or customer service is advantageous but not essential, as full training will be provided. A positive attitude, reliability, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team are essential qualities we are looking for. Working under their supervision you will develop experience of dealing with the general public, plus other beneficial.

  • To provide a well-structured customer service with a smile always and wearing your volunteer badge to help identify who you are.
  • Putting out tables and chairs (weather permitting).
  • Money handling; being able to enter information into the till and writing down each item so this can be banked each week.
  • Serve our customers and dealing with enquires.
  • Ensuring all donations are sellable items, that are undamaged but clean/tidy and if need be your able to iron all useable clothing to the public.
  • Maintaining weekly / seasonal rotation of stock on shelves and rails.
  • Keeping shop front, Stockroom and all other areas clutter free.
  • All unsellable and old stock are, bagged ready for tip run.
  • Oversee the computer booths making sure the correct form in the folder is completed.
  • To work as part of the extensive team within GL Communities including attending the Volunteer meetings and any additional training required.
  • Conform to all GL Communities Policies and Procedures. (copies on request) i.e. General Data Protection Regulations/Safeguarding.
